Quick Summary

Quick Answer

Patch #14 is primarily a PvE content update and does not introduce meaningful balance changes to the current Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era PvP meta.

Two new custom maps arrive with the update:

  • Prisoners — a new story-driven scenario built around searching for missing commanders.
  • Broken Alliance — a nostalgic PvE map created by Papyjama, also available in Custom Lobbies and Hotseat.

The bigger competitive news is what comes next: a Ranked reset, matchmaking and ranking changes, followed by a major balance beta with several skill and faction reworks.

Patch Frequency and its Contents

As development remains fully active on our end, the frequency of patches with PvE content will go up, which should result in a wide array of maps and scenarios for you to try out. In the latest patch, on top of The Mysterious Island scenario, there were a lot of bug fixes and various changes — make sure you check them out!

We’d also like to take this moment to note that we understand not all changes may seem appealing at first — the Heroes community is an incredibly vast and varied group with various needs that sometimes can be at odds with one another, so sometimes what may be exciting to one group might not be as interesting to another. We will continue to listen to your feedback and implement it whenever possible, so please make sure you send it our way!

What Patch #14 Changes in the Meta

Tip

Olden Era Patch #14 does not materially affect the current PvP meta.

There is no major faction balance pass, spell rebalance, or competitive template overhaul in Patch #14.

There is currently no reason to change our faction tier lists or competitive recommendations based on this update alone.

The more important competitive changes are coming in the next updates.

Ranked Reset Is Coming

The upcoming Major Roadmap Patch, planned for later in September, will include:

  • Alliances
  • new Advanced Random Map Generator features
  • matchmaking system changes
  • ranking system updates
  • Ranked reset
  • other improvements

The exact scope of the Ranked reset has not yet been explained.

It is currently unclear whether only player ratings and leaderboard positions will be reset or whether other ranked statistics will also be affected.

New PvE Content: Prisoners

Prisoners is a new scenario centered around a search party trying to locate commanders who disappeared near a local outpost.

As players move deeper into the forest, increasingly strange events begin to unfold.

Additional heroes cannot simply be recruited normally. Instead, players need to find prisons across the map and free the captured heroes.

New PvE Content: Broken Alliance

The second new map is Broken Alliance, created by Papyjama.

The scenario follows former allies turning against each other as players fight to establish control over the map.

Unlike Prisoners, Broken Alliance is also available through:

  • Custom Lobbies
  • Hotseat

The developers describe it as a nostalgic classic-style scenario designed for both veteran Heroes players and newcomers.

More PvE Content Is Coming

Patch #14 continues the PvE direction established by Patch #13 and The Mysterious Island.

The developers also confirmed that PvE-focused patches will become more frequent, with more maps and scenarios planned.
