1. About This Site

Town Portal (townportal.gg) is a free community website dedicated to Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. It provides tier lists, faction guides, news, and other community-created content. The site is operated independently and is not affiliated with Ubisoft or Unfrozen.

2. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and username. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google. We do not store passwords in plain text — authentication is handled by Supabase.

We do not collect payment information. The site is free to use.

3. Cookies and Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site (pages visited, session duration, geographic region). Analytics cookies are only set after you give consent via the cookie banner.

We use Google Analytics with Consent Mode v2. If you decline cookies, no analytics data identifying you is collected.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the icon in the bottom-left corner of the page.

Our banner groups cookies into necessary, analytics, and advertising categories. Advertising cookies are described separately in section 4.

4. Advertising

Town Portal displays advertising, including ads served by Google AdSense. Advertising is what keeps the site free to use.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to Town Portal and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers, and we do not share your account email or username with ad networks.

Depending on your consent, advertising cookies and identifiers may be used to select and measure ads, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to detect invalid traffic and ad fraud. Some of these purposes — in particular security, fraud prevention, and frequency capping — can still apply when you decline personalized advertising, because they are needed to deliver any ad at all.

Your choices:

• Change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie preferences icon in the bottom-left corner of any page.
• Opt out of personalized advertising from Google in Google My Ad Center.
• Opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland. Advertising and analytics cookies are set only after you consent through our cookie banner, which is provided by CookieYes, a Google-certified consent management platform operating the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF). Until you consent, Google tags run in Consent Mode v2 with advertising and analytics storage denied. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they are non-personalized — chosen from general context such as the content of the page and an approximate, typically country-level, location, rather than from a profile of your interests. Where you do consent to personalized advertising, Google and the other vendors listed in the banner act as independent controllers of the data they collect, each under its own privacy policy, which the banner links to per vendor.

International transfers. Google's advertising services are operated by Google LLC and its affiliates and may process data outside your country, including in the United States, subject to the safeguards described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Children. Town Portal is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and the site is not tagged for child-directed advertising treatment.

5. TownPortal Overlay (Desktop App)

TownPortal Overlay is a separate desktop application built on the Overwolf platform. Automatic contribution of structured game observations to TownPortal is a required part of its core functionality. The Overlay does not provide a mode that disables these uploads. If you do not want to contribute this information, do not install or use the Overlay.

• Screenshots are processed locally on your own device. Raw screenshots never leave your computer.
• The Overlay automatically sends structured observations recognized from matchmaking, draft, leaderboard, and match-history screens. Depending on what is visible, these observations may include player nicknames, game mode, timestamps, leaderboard position or rank, rating, wins and losses, opponents, templates or maps, factions, heroes, bans, match result, in-game days, rating changes, and a recognition method and confidence for individual fields.
• TownPortal associates an observation with a server-issued installation identifier, client and schema versions, the time it was received, and your network IP address for security and rate limiting. The current anonymous MVP does not link that installation to a TownPortal account. A nickname selected as the "self" player is treated as a claim made by that installation, not as proof that you own or control the corresponding game profile.
• During closed testing, access may require a single-use invitation token. TownPortal stores only a cryptographic hash of the token and an administrator-provided invite label (for example, a tester or streamer name), then permanently associates that label with the installation for support, contribution attribution, security, and audit purposes. The raw invitation token is not retained.
• We use contributed observations to reconcile multiple reports of the same match, maintain rankings and match history, produce aggregate statistics, improve recognition quality, and detect duplicates, conflicts, fraud, flooding, or other abuse. Leaderboard and history observations can include public game information about profiles that you open, including players other than the selected self player.
• Recognized records are also stored locally in the Overlay's application-data folder. The app displays up to the newest 500 locally tracked entries; the underlying local history remains on your device until you remove the app data.
• Structured observations awaiting a server receipt are stored in a durable local queue. Accepted and duplicate events are removed from that queue; permanently rejected events may remain locally for diagnostics until you remove the app data.
• Your latest recognized nickname and retrieved TownPortal profile are cached locally so the app can show your most recent statistics when it starts. Display and capture preferences are also stored locally.
• The Overlay does not read game memory, does not inspect network traffic, and does not modify any game files.
• Looking up a nickname works the same way as searching for any player on the website — it queries our existing public player database.
• We do not receive or store your Overwolf account credentials.

The Overlay is distributed and runs through the Overwolf platform, which independently collects its own technical, usage, consent, and advertising data under Overwolf's Platform Privacy Policy. We do not control, and are not responsible for, Overwolf's own data collection.

7. Your Rights

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data, or anonymization of server-side account and installation identifiers, by contacting us at townportal.gg@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days, subject to information we must retain for security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or the integrity of historical game records.

Structured observations and their provenance may be retained to preserve rankings, match history, auditability, and abuse controls. Public in-game handles and canonical game facts may therefore remain after you uninstall the Overlay or delete a TownPortal account.

Overlay history, cached statistics, and preferences stored only on your device can be removed by deleting the %APPDATA%\townportal-overlay folder. Town Portal cannot remotely access or delete files that exist only on your device. Uninstalling the Overlay or deleting its local application data does not delete observations that were already transmitted to TownPortal.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site or the Overlay after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
